Okay, I promised to tell you all what I did with that dresser drawer that I refinished for last week's Frugal Friday. Well, I have a confession to make. The reason I didn't share it with you last Friday, was because I was second guessing my original intention.
When I first decided to save this drawer from the trash heap, I thought that it would make a nice underbed box to store the Princess' huge collection of stuffed animals.
But after I saw how cute the drawer turned out, I began to question hiding it underneath a bed.
As these things sometimes work out, however, the drawer ended up being just a bit too tall to actually fit underneath the Princess' bed. ( You can't really tell that well in the photo, but the drawer doesn't clear the bedframe by a mere 1/2").
So what did I decide to do with this little pretty? Well, I had many wonderful suggestions from my creative readers. One of my favorites (and one that had occurred to me as well) was to fill the drawer with fluffy towels and put in the bathroom. I absolutely would have done this...if my bathroom had anywhere to display it. No such luck.
Instead, I loaded it up with some of my favorite cozy quilts and placed it under the green buffet in my living room. Perfect for the upcoming cold winter weather. I must admit, after looking at the photo, I'm not completely sold on it. I decided that since height is no longer a factor for the little drawer...it could really use some casters or maybe some bun feet to give it a little lift. The scale is just a little off...it looks...well...it looks like a drawer sitting on the ground. I love it, but it definitely needs a little something. What do you think?
Have a great Tuesday~

Hi Wendy,
Your drawer did turn out so cute! I love the ribbon handles, too! :) As for what to do to give it height, what about putting "legs" on it? You can get table legs at the hardware store, at different heights usually. (Or you could use spindles, like another blogger did to make her own table!) Okay, now you have ME thinking about this! :) But I know no matter what you decide, it will be cute, as always! :)
I hope you had a great Monday! :)
When gutting our 1950's kitchen I kept the drawers and put wheels on the bottom painted them pink and used them for storage under my daughters crib. They were perfect for blankets, books and toys. With the crib height they showed and actually added so much without taking up any space! love you blog.
I think it is so cute! I was thinking some legs too to make it taller. It will look great whatever you do with it.
Hey girl!
Give her some fancy legs! She'd be so cute on a little curled leg. Kind of like a squatty end table, only an end drawer. Wheels are convenient but not showy enough. The keyhole... LOVE IT!
The drawer did turn out really lovely. I love the ribbon handles. I agree that if you leave it under the table, it needs a little height. Maybe some vintage wheels?
How adorable!
Hmm, I agree, this is really showing off how beautifull it is. But if wheels would do the trick? Well I would try stuffing it a bit more, making it luxuriously overflowing with blankets and quilts (just add a pillow to the bottom) and then maybe put an old key in the keyhole and dangle a tassle from it and then find a place a bit higher up. Maybe you have an old little stool or table it could sit on, or a vintage wine box or crate. I think getting it off the floor would be the best bet. It is beautiful, show it off!
I think legs on the drawer would look adorable - maybe something to match the feel of your buffett. Wheels would look too "useful", but legs would give it that extra special detail.
Wonderful suggestions, I agree with them! Cant wait to see what you choose to do! Sue
I think you are right about the bun feet. Perhaps spme beechy or piney ones to compliment the rope handles?
I want that buffet!! BEAUTIFUL!

Do you have a fireplace? This would be cute on the harth w/some fire wood in it(or w/the quilts yet).
or by the back door to hold gloves and hats and stuff like that! or maybe on top of the washer for laundry room stuff.
Good luck w/whatever you decide.
Your buffet is gorgeous! I think the drawer looks cute under there and some little feet would really be a nice touch to complete the look! You'll find a great solution, I know you will!
Hmmm...can't decide, but I totally love the quilts and buffet!!
Great idea; you are right; it definitely needs legs. Not buns; something pretty- carved or spindly, and I like the caster idea.
I agree that it would be great to put some legs on it. That would give it some more height and may make it the right scale. I know you can find wooden pieces like that at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
what a fun idea! It definately needs legs, but I think it would look awesome if you could find some similar to the buffet.
Really cute! I saw some somewhat dainty feet to go with the buffet.
i agree something on the bottom would be perfect to lift it up a bit.. i know you are going to find the perfect thing.
the buffet.... dreamy!!
xo,

I love it with all the quilts. I agree it does need something extra though. Casters could be fun or some old crystal door knobs?
Love the quilts in the drawer. I can't wait to see what you end up doing to it.
I kind of think the addition of legs would compete with the pretty legs on your buffet. What if you found another one (different color or texture?) to stack with it?
Legs or wheels would be GREAT! I love the way it looks, but you're right. It needs a little height to make it look "finished."
If you wanted it to look a little more whimsical, maybe you could find some feet that are carved like fat little birds or frogs. That would be cute, I think.
definitely needs wheels or bun feet! :)
Here's a great idea using glass knobs as feet. Or maybe old door knobs. Maybe even putting on top of the buffet w/your napkins and serving utensils.

I think if you keep it under the buffet you should definitely put some casters on it to make sliding it in and out easier. I love the quilts in it!
Oh, cute! Love that buffet! Wow!
For abit more substance, how about stacking it with two drawers, the bottom one being bigger, painting one out black to tie in with those gorgeous knobs?
I do like your idea of the bun feet though too. But I keep seeing abit of black somehow somewhere so the unit in whole doesn't float.
Would be cool to find an old suitcase painted out black (glazed with some highlights) underneath the drawer, complete with felt liners so you could slide the works back and forth.
I love this idea. And I really like where you placed it! I want to find a cool drawer now. :)

I love what you decided to do with the drawer! It is so nice that it's versatile and can be changed up in any room too! XOXO
Yes, I think it does look a little out of place just sitting on the floor. I love all the ideas from other readers! I also think it may ned something a little more substantial for the handles. The ribbon looks kinda wimpy for such a large drawer. I love the idea of using drawers instead of baskets for many purposes! Thanks!
I think the bun feet would be fabulous. Love the ribbon "drawer pulls."
I do so love the bun feet idea!! These are just adorable with the unusual pulls you used!!
I think it would be really cute to make a mini version of the buffet.
Add short, similar legs, similar knobs and a lid.
I have a bunch of drawers from all the play kitchens I have made. Table legs? Casters? Bun feet? My wheels are turning now!
You could always get some of those bed risers that they sell (Ikea has some) then you can use your cute lil crafty storage drawers!
Love old drawers. Just found some myself and used about a dozen around my house (long story why I had so many)
Legs or bunn feet would look great on yours. there's a ribbon holder you can make too, on my blog.
Love your work!
Oh, I love how your mind works~this is perfect. I think some little bun feet would give it just the touch it needs...or how about some old doorknobs??
